Overview
The role is responsible for maintaining and repairing vehicles, generators, and other transport equipment, as well as ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and goods.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake periodic and ad hoc maintenance and repair of vehicles, generators, or other WFP transport or equipment.
- Conduct regular checks of vehicles, generators, or other transport or equipment to assess mechanical condition and proper functioning.
- Recover and repair broken-down transport or equipment, including WFP vehicles damaged during field missions.
- Install and maintain on-board WFP vehicle equipment such as VHF, radios, or satellite tracking systems.
- Accurately and timely report on mechanical work undertaken, including manufacturing defects that appear during repairs.
- Manage and update spare parts tracking systems and vehicle maintenance operations.
- Maintain all repair tools and equipment in good working order.
- Provide technical advice to drivers to improve their skills.
- Transport authorized personnel and deliver various items or goods.
- Meet and assist official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points.
- Maintain vehicle logbooks and provide daily reports on mechanical condition.
- Ensure assigned vehicle is kept clean and in good working order.
- Report any mechanical problems to the supervisor.
- Perform simple related administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, or stock management.
- Deliver or collect various items, dispatch mail, and pay telephone bills or other invoices.
Required Experience
At least three (03) years of experience in increasingly responsible roles in the maintenance and repair of commercial vehicles, light vehicles, other transport, generators, and other equipment. At least three years of experience as a driver, preferably with an embassy, UN agency, or other international organization, and a good driving record. Experience driving vehicles of different makes and models, including vans and other types of motorized vehicles. Desirable experience in defensive driving.
Qualifications
Completion of secondary education, supplemented by a technical training program in automotive vehicle maintenance or relevant mechanical/technical training. Driving license or driving certificate authorizing the use of commercial vehicles or light vehicles in compliance with local regulations.
