Economic Affairs Intern

Overview

This internship position within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) aims to support the Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development (PCSD) Branch in its technical assistance and programme development efforts for developing countries.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Branch in the implementation of technical assistance to strengthen productive capacities holistically in various developing countries, as well as sectorally, in the area of Blue Economy, agricultural value chains and value addition strategies;
• Support the preparation of Holistic Productive Capacities Development programmes based on National Productive Capacities Gap Assessments.
• Assist in collecting and synthesizing information and prepare summary notes as input to broader sectoral studies, both country-based and global, using official databases to look for reliable quantitative data and qualitative information, triangulate and verify data, provide summaries, briefing notes, analyses and presentations;
• Support project proposal development to assist in productive capacities development in African countries, LDCs and other target regions.
• Identify and map potential funding partners based on areas of activity.

Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. No working experience is required for this internship.

Qualifications

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
• For this position the University degree must be in the area of economics, development, law, political science or other social sciences deemed appropriate.
