Intern – Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Overview

This internship focuses on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The role supports the implementation of GIS cartographic standards and the preparation of map products.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with the translation and implementation of GIS cartographic standards and style guides.
• Assisting with the preparation of digital and print map products, including style files, map layouts, and quality control.
• Reviewing and validating map products for compliance with standards.
• Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation and user guides.
• Supporting the organization and management of GIS resources and content-sharing processes.
• Researching and documenting best practices related to cartography and GIS standards.
• Providing support for testing, troubleshooting, and improving GIS workflows and applications.

Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
• Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro is required.
• Degree studies in GIS or a closely related discipline beyond the minimum educational requirement and completion of GIS training programmes, examinations, or professional certifications in GIS mapping and spatial analysis is an advantage.
