Overview

This internship position is located in Geneva within the Digital Economy Capacity-Building Section of the E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch. The role involves assisting with research, data collection, policy analysis, and supporting organizational activities related to e-commerce and digital trade.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in carrying out background research, data collection and policy analysis support in the areas of e-commerce and digital trade, including ICT infrastructure and services, trade logistics, digital payments, legal and regulatory frameworks, skills development and access to finance, with a focus on developing and least developed countries;
  • Assist in drafting inputs for analytical studies prepared by the DECBS, (e.g. 5th eTrade Implementation Review and ongoing eTrade Readiness Assessments);
  • Provide assistance in the organization and servicing of meetings, workshops and other stakeholder engagement initiatives, presenting DECBS work and products, as relevant;
  • Support DECBS team in the preparation of communication material (social media, web content, etc.) as needs arise;
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme. Should be computer literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages Required
Fluency in English and a working knowledge of French (both oral and written) are required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
