Overview
Assists in the implementation of security operations and management of safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Collects, updates, and communicates information regarding the safety and security situation.
- Liaises and coordinates with host government security and emergency management organizations.
- Assesses the safety and security situation at the duty station and gathers/verifies security information.
- Communicates safety and security issues to UN agency heads and provides advice to UNDSS.
- Maintains regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies.
- Assists in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists.
- Supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan.
- Assists with the monitoring of safety and security measures implementation.
- Assists in reporting security incidents and preparing security reports.
- Provides support in organizing and conducting training courses on safety, security, and emergency awareness.
- Conducts safety and security briefings.
- Provides support in conducting security evaluations and advice on Residential Security Measures.
- Establishes and maintains warden system and updates information related to UN offices and residences.
- Administers a pass and ID system.
- Maintains liaison with commercial companies used for UN security.
- Provides general administrative assistance, including maintaining correspondence files and a database of contact details.
- Arranges appointments, receives visitors, and screens telephone calls.
- Takes minutes and/or notes at meetings.
- Provides support to the Area Security Coordinator, Area Security Management System members, and other stakeholders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Seven (7) years of progressively responsible work experience in risk management, safety and security, or emergency and disaster management – such as emergency management, security forces, civil protection and humanitarian or non-governmental organizations, or corporate/private sector security – is required for candidates who hold a high school diploma or equivalent. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and OneDrive is required. Experience as a trainer, instructor or facilitator in related topics such as first aid, emergency response, incident command, or safety and security is desirable. Experience responding to and managing safety and security incidents or emergencies is desirable. Experience coordinating with government authorities, humanitarian partners or communities in emergency preparedness and response is desirable.
Qualifications
High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
