Overview
The Public Health Specialist will support the integration of climate-resilient WASH into assessments and plans, contribute to policy briefs, and develop health promotion materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the integration of climate-resilient Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) into the Climate change health vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment and into Water Safety Plans at health care facility level.
- Contribute to assessments and training on climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable health care facilities, using WHO checklists and guidance.
- Contribute to the national climate change and health policy brief, including compilation of health, emissions and economic evidence and drafting of policy options for health-sector decision-makers and other sectors.
- Support the review and implementation of health-sector National Adaptation Plan and contribute to drafting mid-term and long-term health adaptation action plans.
- Develop, adapt and pretest evidence-based health promotion materials (Arabic and English) on climate-health nexus.
- Support the development of a national heat-health action plan and the communication component of the heat-wave early warning system pilot.
- Engage youth networks, community-based organizations and volunteers.
- Develop and deliver training and orientation sessions on climate change and health, health promotion, and relevant areas.
- Support planning, budgeting, procurement follow-up and monitoring of the climate change and health workplan activities; maintain the activity tracker and risk log.
- Prepare progress reports, donor reports, mission reports, meeting minutes, success stories and web/social media content.
- Perform any other related duties as required by the supervisor.
Required Experience
At least 3 years of professional work experience at the national level in public health, health promotion, environmental health, climate change or a closely related field, of which at least 1 year involves programme or project implementation with government, UN or non-governmental partners; Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing health promotion, risk communication or community engagement interventions in Jordan. Experience or demonstrated knowledge in climate change and health (vulnerability and adaptation assessment, heat-health action, climate-resilient WASH or health facilities, health in national climate change action plana and nationally determined contributions processes). Experience in organizing multi-stakeholder consultations, workshops and trainings, and in producing technical reports, policy briefs and communication products. Familiarity with the Jordanian health system and with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment and related national institutions; previous work with WHO or the UN system is an asset.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Health field, public health or any relevant area.
